Mobility Who? Mobility manager: the mobility expert
Systematically analyzing mobility to rethink the concept of the city: mobility management shapes the space of our travels. Living urban spaces in a functional and sustainable way is possible, and the task of designing a new way to move around falls to the mobility manager. Whether part of a private company or within public administration, this role is now essential in times like ours, when we have to minimize travel time and travel methods.
This profession, present since the Nineties, became mandatory with the recent Decreto Rilancio for companies with more than one hundred employees located in municipalities with over fifty thousand inhabitants.
"The real problem linked to mobility - according to Marcello Marchese, Special Mobility Manager and head of the commercial department at AMAT Palermo - lies in the cities, where there is a high rate of vehicle congestion, and therefore high environmental and noise pollution. The role of the mobility manager dates back to a 1998 decree; however, very few companies appointed one or, in any case, did so in a merely symbolic way, meaning that in practice it almost never produced anything. In the 2000s there was not all this level of digitalization, and questionnaires were handed out to employees to gather all their travel needs."
The goal of the mobility manager is to optimize the costs and impacts of mobility on the territory, paying attention to the environmental aspect. Their main task is to rationalize the movement of citizens, in particular of workers, through an analysis carried out using specific statistical tools and geocoding tools.
